Meta-Material Layout for the Protection of Buried Steel Pipes against Surface Explosion

This paper reports on preliminary yet consistent studies and results around the concept of meta-material applied to protection buried gas transmission pipelines. The capacity proposed layout in attenuating dissipating energy induced by a surface explosion is described general terms, then it examined for set nine realistic cases. formulation band gaps, which are considered zones mitigation incident waves certain frequencies, composes core analysis. For calculation gaps that target specific range 1D periodic structures’ theory adopted, have been verified numerically via COMSOL. tested cases explosions finite element analyses ABAQUS, using CONWEP model simulating explosions. Extremely satisfying demonstrated regarding reduction vertical horizontal displacements steel pipe. outer goal present study spotlight implementation concepts efficient blast underground structures, addressing major hazard this type structure gap current literature.
